Foundation in TESL: Aftermath

Hai, peeps. I'm going to bring you a life update about me, as an ex-foundation in TESL student. What I am about to tell you in this post is very valuable, in my opinion. I wonder why no one writes about it. Today, I am going to share with you about what happens after foundation in TESL. You need to know this, because there's a high chance that what happens to me, will happen to you too.

I graduated from Foundation in TESL with good grades, bless God for it. With Band 5 MUET and dean list, I thought that my future to enrol myself in Banchelor of TESL is bright/high. I am not ashamed to say that I am proud with my results since I have worked so hard to achieve it and I earned it.

Then, came MEDSI.

What the fish is MEDSI? I had once wondered.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, if I were to describe what is MEDSI, I would say that MEDSI is the gatekeeper that guards and is meticulously computerised psychology test to examine students who wish to pursue their studies in Banchelor in TESL, only giving a handful of Foundation in TESL students a chance to attend an interview or interviews for Banchelor in TESL course.

Well, to put it in a less sarcastic and more straightforward answer, MEDSI is an online-psychology test which determines whether you are qualified to be a teacher or not.

MEDSI Fun Facts:

1) You need to pass MEDSI first before you able to sit for any TESL interviews
If you 'fail' medsi, then you can say goodbye to your dream to enrol yourself in Banchelor in TESL at any government universities.

2) It's a psychology test that gives you many answer options from 'sangat tidak setuju to sangat setuju'

3) A chance to sit for MEDSI test is only given to those who are 'qualified'
I do not know what are the requirements needed in order to get the chance to sit for MEDSI examination. But I think it has something to do with your SPM results. Or maybe, it's just a game of luck. If you do not get an offer to sit for MEDSI examination, it is safe to say goodbye to your dream to pursue Degree in TESL.

So, I was somehow qualified to take this test...

and I...

'fail'.

Wow, saya tidak layak untuk melanjutkan pelajaran ke degree tesl! WOOOOOHOOOO

Okay jokes. When I received no fucking interviews, I cried a lot. I hate to use the word 'depressed' as depression is not a joke, not supposed to be used lightly but yes, I was depressed. I received an interview from University Malaya for Banchelor in Drama but my parents did not permit me to sit for the interview. Else than that, I received nothing. Zero.

My friends got many TESL interviews from various universities, excitedly and anxiously discussing about them in group chats and it makes me feel extremely sad. Words like 'bukan rezeki kau' irked me to no end because fuck you, you got the freaking interviews thats why you can say something so... lame like that. Put yourself in my shoes. I have no other plan else than pursuing my degree in tesl and when I was shot down like that after all the hardships I went through, it's somber and painful, you know?

So please, if the people you know that shares a similar experience as me, please don't say 'bukan rezeki kau' to him or her. I'm not defying God, I'm not saying that I am so against what God had written for me in my future life. What I'm saying is shut the hell up and really, really try to understand the sadness that breaks our heart.

But I did not give up so easily. I type an appeal letter to UiTM and personally went to meet the Chancellor of UiTM to discuss about my problem with him. But the pretty receptionist lady and handsome man forbid me to meet the Chancellor by sending me away to another office worker down at another department.

I discussed my issue with another nice female office worker and all she said is, "I'm sorry we can't do anything."

"Why?"

"Because you failed your MEDSI test. You have to at least achieve minimum MEDSI passing score in order to receive any TESL interviews."

"Can you check what is my MEDSI score. It is not stated anywhere in any website."

"Oh, I don't know. If you didn't receive any interview then you simply fail your MEDSI."

Yes. That's the only way you know whether you pass or fail your medsi test! WOW.

"So... it doesn't matter if I got bad grades and muet result, as long as I passed MEDSI then I can get the interviews? Does this make the cgpa and muet not an important requirement to pursue Banchelor in TESL?"

Girls and boys, future educators, I know it may be shocking for you to accept the conclusion I came to through this experience. Some of you may think that I am a jerk for saying this but, your muet and cgpa means a little to nothing next to the almighty MEDSI. I wanted to say that your CGPA and MUET results are useless but that is not entirely true as well. So, what I'm saying is it's definitely okay for you to score an average results for both examinations as long as you pass MEDSI and the interviews, everything will be alright for you. MEDSI is more important than your other results, honestly.

Oh and please do not be surprised if many of foundation in tesl students fail to further their studies in Banchelor in tesl. It's a normal thing, I swear. It's a normal routine, a game. There's nothing I can do about it, not something that you can control. You might only be able to watch the chance slip out of your palm, landing perfectly on other people's hands.

When that happens, it's perfectly okay to be mad, to curse, to cry but promise yourself to start over again.

I fail, it's true.

UiTM rejected me. UKM rejected me. UM and UPM did the same thing.

But I got back up again.

And now, guess what? I'm back in the game again.

I got TESL; the bachelor in TESL by a streak of luck.

But that's a story for another update. :D

Banchelor in TESL UKM: First Semester

I decided to update today, a day before I start my second semester. So, semester one is a roller coaster ride for me. It was tough, so many sleepless nights and anxiety thoughts. I enrolled in UKM on week 7, right on the mid-sem of the first semester. I was forced to merge with the 'arus perdana' students of UKM which means I had to catch up with all the seven weeks that I have missed; the seven weeks worth of assignments and the seven weeks worth of lectures. It was insane but I somehow made it. I remember on the first week of my enrolment, I suddenly needed to take a quiz of a subject I barely knew about. Can you imagine yourself having to take a quiz about an alien topic? I had to go through that since there'll be no exceptions or handicap for me even though I was a fresh, new student in Banchelor of TESL. My answers were all nonsense, nothing seems right so when I walked out from the exam hall, there was only one thing on my mind; I am going to fail this for sure. O...

Interview Asasi Tesl 2015

Assalammualaikum to dear readers. I make this blog just to put up my experience in Foundation in Tesl's interview since I realize that this experience is indeed valuable and needed to be shared to the upcoming generations that are interested in taking this course in the future. Like any other bloggers who post out about this particular topic, I'll be doing the same thing- I'll tell you about: 1) Documents needed for the interview 2) Preparations 3) Clothing 4) A place to stay for the night (for those who are going to have their interview in UiTM Pasir Gudang) 5) Writing test and also the holy interview.  I'm not sure if this will help you or not but I do hope that it will help you in someways, tho. So, let's move on. The first thing you need to do once you are being called for the interview is preparing the documents that are requested by UiTM. Print two copies of each documents as a precaution measure. Anything can happen so it's better to be prep...

Welcome to Dengkil : Pros and Cons!

I have started my second semester in a new place, UiTM Dengkil, Selangor about more or less three weeks ago! Well, everywhere you go, they'll be pros and cons and the same case can be applied to this matter. But everything I listed down here might change in the future so please don't immediately say no to this brand new place, okay? Lets start with the pros. What do I like about Dengkil? 1) IOI City Mall Putrajaya It's just 20 minutes away from UiTM Dengkil and don't worry, there are buses that will take you to IOI for only RM3.00! Back in Lendu, we need to go for half an hour to one hour ride just to reach AEON, which is the nearest shopping complex we can go to. Don't get me wrong, people. I love Lendu as well. There's AEON and Dataran Pahlawan. But in terms of transportation, I might prefer IOI better. If you want to go to IOI via Taxi (metered taxi), it'll cost you around RM25-RM30. 2) Putrajaya Sentral Near to the bus station. Plus...
