Hai, people. Right now I'm in my second semester in Foundation in TESL and so far, things are quite alright although not everything goes like I want it to be. Whom am I for the universe to oblige to my wish and will?
So, I shall begin today's topic by exposing to my readers about the subjects that Foundation in TESL are required to learn in the second semester. There might not be a significant difference between the subjects in first semester and second semester yet for me, personally, the subjects for second semester are more fun and challenging at the same time.
1) Grammar
2) Listening and Speaking
3) Writing
4) Reading
5) Drama
6) Literature
7) Basic Principle of Education
8) Islamic Education
*Those in italics are the new subjects that I am learning for the second semester.
I like to consider myself as an abstract person who is more inclined to literature and drama rather than grammar and reading. I may be an avid-reader but it is different from the Reading course itself. Grammar is never my forte yet I am making an effort to improve my understanding in Grammar as a vital concept to comprehend and master.
There are a lot of things that I need to do in my second semester. In contrast to my first semester, my second semester is a little bit more hectic and busy. There are a lot of things to memorise, to learn and to do. There might not be a lot of group presentation unlike back in semester one, but there are a lot of individual presentation.
Second semester really tests my ability to memorise and to multitask. For example, just for this week, I need to memorise a 7-minute worth long speech, memorise 15 Al-Quran verse, basic principle of education presentation and also my script for the upcoming drama class. Not to forget a reading test. All in one week. It's crazy but I'll manage somehow.
Who says that TESL is a course for lazy students? That's a false statement because you need to do a lot of writing, reading, understanding, interpreting the poems, making speech, debating and even acting. TESL students need to do all of that.
So if you are interested and you think you can handle all the workload that other people might think as 'nothing', yeah, go ahead and choose TESL. Honestly, I can say that TESL is where I belong. I was never a science or mathematic students and language and only language is the thing that I can embrace with an open heart.
